Job Title:
Defense Litigation Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A respected law firm, with a strong regional and national presence, is looking for an experienced Associate Attorney to join its dynamic litigation team. This role will focus on defense work in the areas of NYS Labor Law and personal injury litigation. The successful candidate will collaborate with a talented group of attorneys across multiple offices, handling various aspects of litigation, from pre-trial motions to discovery and depositions, and preparing for trial and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Duties:

  • Research Labor Law and personal injury matters, and collaborate with senior attorneys to develop defense strategies.
  • Take and defend depositions, both in-person and via video platforms.
  • Manage discovery and e-discovery processes.
  • Draft legal documents, including reports, memoranda, pleadings, discovery requests/responses, motions, and briefs.
  • Participate in trial and ADR planning, preparation, and strategy.
  • Represent clients in court, including courtroom conferences and motion hearings.
  • Oversee day-to-day management of Labor Law and personal injury cases, under supervision.
  • Maintain a high billable hour requirement (1900 hours annually).

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of general liability litigation experience.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
  • Admission to Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into New Jersey).
  • Prior experience in NYS courts is required; federal court experience is a plus.
  • Strong skills in taking and defending depositions, drafting motions and pleadings, and handling e-discovery.
  • Proficiency with video conferencing tools (Zoom, MS Teams) for depositions and court conferences.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for depositions and court conferences, including overnight trips.
  • Exceptional research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Must demonstrate conscientiousness, self-discipline, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice in New York; admission to Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar is a plus.

Skills:
