Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patent preparation and prosecution for various technology fields, including software, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), networking, and quantum technologies.
  • Collaborate with clients and inventors to develop strategic patent portfolios, providing expert advice on intellectual property matters.
  • Draft high-quality patent applications with attention to detail and technical accuracy.
  • Manage and oversee patent prosecution tasks, including responses to office actions, amendments, and appeals.
  • Stay up-to-date with legal precedents, technology trends, and updates in patent law, particularly in the areas of software and AI technologies.
  • Provide legal counsel and advice on patentability, freedom-to-operate, and IP strategy.
  • Assist in designing and implementing product design strategies while integrating IP protections.
  • Participate in patent portfolio reviews, providing input for potential patent filings and strategic decisions.
  • Conduct technical analysis of products and services to assess patentability or potential IP risks.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, scientists, and other legal professionals, to ensure smooth execution of IP-related projects.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Education:

    • A degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science is required.
    • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 2+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience, preferably in a law firm or related industry.
    • Proven experience working with software-related technologies, artificial intelligence, IoT, networking, or quantum technologies.
  • Certifications:

    • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
  • Skills:

    • Strong technical background with the ability to quickly learn and understand complex technologies.
    • Superb written and verbal communication skills, with a strong emphasis on technical writing and patent drafting.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in patent law and product design.
    • Proficiency in managing and developing patent portfolios, with a strategic mindset.
    • Excellent collaboration skills, working effectively with clients, inventors, and cross-functional teams.
