A law firm seeks an experienced Real Estate Leasing Counsel to join its corporate and capital markets team in Hartford, CT. The firm represents a diverse client base, including national and global retailers, as well as landlords, handling leasing transactions across the United States. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience with 5-10 years of experience in retail lease negotiations and possess expertise in other real estate asset classes, such as office, lab, and industrial leasing. Remote work and flexible arrangements, including part-time, may be available for the right candidate.

Duties:

  • Lead and negotiate retail lease transactions for clients, ensuring favorable terms and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Provide legal guidance on lease structuring, terms, and conditions for retail, office, industrial, and lab leases.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to advise clients on real estate leasing strategies, property management, and lease renewal or termination.
  • Draft, review, and modify lease agreements, amendments, and related documents.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, legal developments, and regulatory changes related to real estate leasing.
  • Manage a caseload efficiently while ensuring quality client service and adherence to deadlines.

Requirements:

  • 5-10 years of experience in negotiating retail leases and other real estate asset classes.
  • In-house retail leasing experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, research, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, balancing multiple priorities.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Approximately 1600 billable hours per year.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the state bar (preferably in Connecticut or applicable jurisdiction).

Skills:

  • Expertise in negotiating, drafting, and reviewing retail leases.
  • In-depth knowledge of real estate transactions and lease agreements.
  • Strong client advisory skills with a focus on business strategy.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for client interaction and team collaboration.
