A law firm in Chicago, IL is seeking a passionate Entry-Level Criminal Defense Attorney to join their team. The attorney will work closely with the Managing Criminal Defense Attorney and collaborate with a supportive team to manage cases, provide legal counsel to clients, and contribute to the firm's criminal defense practice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of criminal defense matters, handling client interactions and case management.
  • Advise clients on their legal rights and draft legal documents related to their cases.
  • Attend pretrial hearings, trials, and other court appearances on behalf of clients.
  • Conduct legal research and analyze legal precedents to assess case outcomes.
  • Draft motions, pleadings, and other legal documents as needed for case proceedings.
  • Interview witnesses and gather evidence to support client cases.
  • Provide legal analysis to clients regarding potential case benefits and strategies.
  • Prepare clients for depositions and assist in gathering information from witnesses and experts.
  • Collaborate effectively with the criminal defense team, including attorneys and legal assistants.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in criminal defense law through coursework, clinics, internships, or volunteer experiences during law school.
  • Utilize case management software to maintain organized case files and deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active Bar admission in Illinois; law graduates awaiting admission will be considered.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish preferred to communicate effectively with clients and witnesses.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience with case management software preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a workload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines effectively.
