A law firm located in West Conshohocken, PA, is seeking a Senior Tax Controversy Associate Attorney with 8-10 years of experience in tax controversy. This role involves working on a variety of complex tax issues, including tax court litigation, audits, appeals, and disputes, with a focus on federal income and estate/gift tax matters. The ideal candidate will be able to work both independently and in collaboration with a team of attorneys and staff, with strong communication and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle tax court litigation procedures, including drafting motions, briefs, and legal memoranda.
  • Represent clients in tax court trials, appeals, and alternative dispute resolutions.
  • Advise and assist clients with IRS audits, investigations, and tax appeals.
  • Address issues related to federal income tax, estate tax, and gift tax matters.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop tax strategies and solutions to complex tax disputes.
  • Work closely with other attorneys, accountants, and tax professionals within the firm.
  • Prepare and review tax-related legal documents, agreements, and contracts.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and state tax regulations and represent clients in compliance audits.
  • Manage multiple cases simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and clients are updated regularly.
  • Provide legal guidance and mentorship to junior attorneys and paralegals.

Education & Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one state (Georgia, Texas, or Pennsylvania preferred).
  • A CPA license, LL.M. in Tax, or a Tax Court clerkship is strongly preferred.
  • Previous government experience with the IRS or DOJ-TAX is a plus.

Required Experience:

  • 8-10 years of experience in tax controversy, including handling tax disputes, audits, and appeals.
  • Practical experience with tax court litigation procedures and trial experience.
  • Experience working in a law firm or accounting firm is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal income tax, estate tax, and gift tax issues.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage complex cases independently while collaborating with a larger team.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize and present complex tax laws and regulations.
