Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and litigate tax controversy cases from inception through trial and resolution.
  • Represent clients in IRS audits, appeals, and U.S. Tax Court proceedings.
  • Provide legal advice on federal income tax and estate/gift tax issues.
  • Conduct tax dispute resolution, including negotiating settlements with the IRS and other tax authorities.
  • Prepare and review legal documents related to tax controversy cases, including petitions, motions, and briefs.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals, and support staff on complex tax matters.
  • Assist clients with voluntary disclosures and tax compliance initiatives.
  • Handle cases involving procedural aspects of tax law, including discovery, depositions, and trial preparation.
  • Provide legal research and analysis on tax law changes, IRS regulations, and case law.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of tax controversy experience.
  • Practical experience with tax court litigation procedures, trial experience, and federal tax disputes.
  • Familiarity with tax audits, IRS appeals, and tax litigation processes.
  • Experience with federal income and estate/gift tax issues.
  • Previous law firm or accounting firm experience is preferred.
  • Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Must be admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. state, with a preference for Georgia, Texas, or Pennsylvania.

Education & Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • A degree in Accounting, a CPA license, or an LL.M. in Tax is strongly preferred.
  • Tax Court clerkship or government experience with the IRS or DOJ-TAX is a significant plus.
  • Excellent academic credentials are required.
