A law firm in Philadelphia, PA is seeking an Environment and Energy Associate Attorney with 4-8 years of relevant experience in environmental law, focusing on litigation, regulatory, or transactional matters. The ideal candidate must have a strong understanding of Federal and State environmental laws, possess excellent writing skills, and have a solid academic background. Preference will be given to candidates with litigation experience involving Superfund, Natural Resource Damages (NRD), or toxic tort matters. Admission to the Pennsylvania (PA) and/or New Jersey (NJ) Bar is preferred.

Duties:

  • Conducting legal research and analysis on environmental regulations, policies, and case law.
  • Drafting and reviewing legal documents such as pleadings, motions, briefs, and contracts related to environmental issues.
  • Providing legal advice and guidance to clients on environmental compliance, permitting, and regulatory matters.
  • Representing clients in environmental litigation proceedings, including disputes related to Superfund sites, NRD claims, and toxic tort cases.
  • Negotiating and drafting agreements pertaining to environmental remediation, compliance, and regulatory approvals.
  • Collaborating with environmental consultants, experts, and governmental agencies on behalf of clients.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • 4-8 years of experience practicing environmental law at a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Strong knowledge of Federal and State environmental laws and regulations.
  • Proven experience in environmental litigation, regulatory compliance, or transactional matters.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal issues effectively.
  • Admission to the Pennsylvania (PA) and/or New Jersey (NJ) Bar, or eligibility to be admitted promptly.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Certification in environmental law (if applicable).

  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and technology.

This firm has given a lot of thought to the interplay between the New York and the New Jersey legal markets. Although one of the oldest and largest in New Jersey, this firm wants to capture the Manhattan type work at Manhattan type billing rates.
