Job Overview
A well-established and rapidly growing national debt defense law firm is seeking a remote, full-time attorney licensed in Michigan. The attorney will provide representation and limited-scope legal assistance to consumer clients involved in debt collection lawsuits. Responsibilities include defending clients in collection cases initiated by original creditors or debt buyers, and providing limited legal assistance, such as reviewing and editing pro se answer drafts. This position is primarily focused on settlement through voluntary payment arrangements, with rare in-person attendance at hearings required.

Duties

  • Represent and defend clients in debt collection cases initiated by creditors or debt buyers
  • Provide limited-scope legal assistance, including reviewing and editing pro se answer drafts
  • Assist clients enrolled in debt resolution programs, primarily focusing on settlement
  • Attend hearings in person when necessary or request local coverage counsel if needed
  • Manage caseload independently while coordinating with paralegals
  • Advise clients on debt defense strategies and potential outcomes
  • Ensure compliance with legal standards and ethical guidelines in consumer debt defense

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice law in Michigan (required)
  • At least 5 years of civil litigation experience
  • Experience in consumer debt defense and/or collections (preferred)
  • Ability to handle cases independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication and client management skills
  • Ability to work remotely and manage a flexible work schedule

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active membership in the Michigan State Bar (required)
