Job Overview

A prestigious law firm is seeking a Patent Agent with a strong background in immunology and biologics to join their Patent Prosecution and Counseling Group. The role involves handling life sciences patent prosecution with a focus on antibody technology, cell therapies, vaccines, and other biologics-based therapeutics. This position is available in the Washington, D.C. or New York office.

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute life sciences patents, particularly in immunology and biologics.
  • Conduct research and analysis to support patent applications and intellectual property strategies.
  • Advise clients on patent-related matters, including patentability and freedom-to-operate assessments.
  • Collaborate with legal teams on developing patent strategies for biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients.
  • Monitor scientific advancements and patent law developments relevant to the life sciences sector.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience as a patent agent in life sciences patent prosecution.
  • Proficiency in biochemistry, particularly with antibody technology, cell therapies, vaccines, and biologics.
  • Strong analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage complex scientific and legal issues.

Education

  • Ph.D. in immunology, biochemistry, or a related field. (M.S. with substantial industry experience may also be considered.)

Certifications

  • Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates with relevant experience and eligibility to sit for the patent bar may also be considered.

Skills

  • Expertise in patent drafting, prosecution, and related legal procedures.
  • Strong writing and communication skills for technical and legal documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and engage with clients on complex scientific topics.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
