A law firm seeks a talented Associate Attorney to join its team in Troy, MI, specializing in foreclosure and bankruptcy law. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated attorney who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about legal expertise in the default servicing industry. The firm is looking for a self-starter who can provide high-quality legal support, advice, and oversight, with a strong ability to stay up-to-date on relevant legal trends. A background in foreclosure or bankruptcy law is preferred.

Duties:

  • Subject Matter Expertise:

    • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for clients and staff regarding legal matters in foreclosure and bankruptcy cases.
    • Provide timely legal advice on specific cases and work towards achieving client goals.
    • Keep abreast of changes in laws affecting the practice and continuously improve expertise.
  • Legal Review/Proofer:

    • Conduct detailed reviews of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, notices, and proofs of claims (POCs).
    • Ensure documents meet both legal standards and client requirements within 24-48 hours of submission for review.
    • Provide constructive feedback on rejected documents and identify opportunities for improving document preparation processes.
  • Oversight and Collaboration:

    • Manage relationships with internal teams, processors, and external partners, ensuring compliance with legal, ethical, and client-specific requirements.
    • Oversee the progress of case files, ensuring that all targets and milestones are met.
    • Collaborate with bankruptcy teams and other practice areas to provide legal guidance and operational support.

Requirements:

  • Education:

    • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensing:

    • Must be licensed and in good standing with the Michigan State Bar.
    • Additional state bar admissions are a plus.
  • Experience:

    • Prior experience in foreclosure, bankruptcy, or similar default servicing areas is preferred.
    • Strong understanding of legal processes, compliance requirements, and case management practices.
  • Skills:

    • Excellent legal research, writing, and communication abilities.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously and work under deadlines.
    • Collaborative attitude and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Michigan State Bar (required).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in legal research and case management software.
  • Strong ability to draft and review legal documents, ensuring compliance with legal and client standards.
  • Ability to educate and mentor staff while maintaining effective working relationships across teams.
