Job Overview:
A prominent law firm in Chicago, IL is seeking a skilled and compassionate Workers’ Compensation Attorney to join its team. The firm is dedicated to advocating for injured workers and ensuring they receive the compensation they deserve. In this role, you will manage a diverse caseload of workers' compensation claims, providing expert legal counsel and advocating for clients at every stage of the process, from case initiation through resolution.

Duties:

  • Client Consultation: Provide legal consultations to workers’ compensation clients, assess the merits of their claims, and offer expert legal advice.
  • Case Management: Handle a caseload of workers' compensation cases, utilizing case management software to ensure all deadlines and client needs are met.
  • Legal Research: Conduct detailed legal research to stay up-to-date on changes in laws and regulations that may affect cases.
  • Document Drafting: Prepare and review legal documents such as pleadings, motions, petitions, and settlement agreements.
  • Negotiation: Work with insurance companies, opposing counsel, and other relevant parties to negotiate favorable settlements for clients.
  • Court Representation: Represent clients at hearings, trials, and appeals before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC).
  • Communication: Maintain clear communication with clients, insurance adjusters, and opposing counsel to ensure clients are informed about case progress.
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution: When necessary, engage in mediation and other dispute resolution methods to expedite case outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active licensure to practice in Illinois.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in workers' compensation law.
  • Deep understanding of workers' compensation laws and legal processes.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to advocate effectively on behalf of clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with legal research and case management software.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to providing quality legal services.
  • Capacity to work independently while collaborating within a team environment.
  • Empathy for injured workers and a strong commitment to justice.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited institution.

Certifications:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in Illinois.
