Job Title: Mid-Level Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney

Job Overview: A prestigious law firm is seeking a mid-level Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney to join their growing team in Charlottesville, VA. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong background in patent prosecution, including application drafting, and a degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or a closely related field. Experience with additional areas of intellectual property is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will demonstrate superior communication, organizational, and analytical skills.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in a variety of technical fields, including mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Provide counsel on patent strategy, patentability, and other intellectual property issues.
  • Work with clients to understand their needs and provide tailored legal advice.
  • Prepare and file patent applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Conduct prior art searches and analyze the patentability of inventions.
  • Assist in patent litigation and post-grant proceedings, as required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and clients to develop strategies for protecting intellectual property.

Requirements:

  • 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, with a focus on application drafting.
  • Strong academic credentials and proven legal expertise.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in Virginia.
  • Must be registered with the USPTO.
  • Experience in additional intellectual property fields is a plus.

Education:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar membership in Virginia.
  • USPTO registration is required.
