A law firm in San Francisco, CA, is seeking a Patent Agent to work on a variety of US and foreign patent prosecution matters, Inter Partes Reviews, freedom to operate analyses, corporate transactions, and technology transfers. The ideal candidate will help develop IP strategies for emerging technology companies and assist in strategic portfolio development for public technology companies. Preferred candidates should have experience in drafting patent applications and office action responses. Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent academic credentials, and a background in areas such as computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering are highly desirable. Admission to the Patent Bar is preferred.

Duties:

  • Collaborate on US and foreign patent prosecution matters, including drafting and filing patent applications.
  • Participate in Inter Partes Reviews and contribute to freedom to operate analyses.
  • Perform due diligence for corporate transactions and technology transfers.
  • Assist in developing IP strategies for emerging technology companies.
  • Contribute to the strategic portfolio development for public technology companies.
  • Draft patent applications and respond to office actions as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Background in at least one or more of the following areas: computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering.
  • Preferred experience in drafting patent applications and responding to office actions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A desire to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Attention to detail and strong time management skills.
  • Admission to the Patent Bar is preferred but not mandatory.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering).

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Patent Bar (preferred but not mandatory).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent prosecution and drafting patent applications.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Ability to work on US and foreign prosecution matters.
  • Familiarity with Inter Partes Reviews and freedom to operate analyses.
  • Knowledge of corporate transactions and technology transfers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and execute IP strategies for technology companies.
