Patent Agent

A law firm seeks an experienced and self-driven Patent Agent to join a growing intellectual property team. Duties

• Draft patent applications across various industries, including mechanical, software, and some aerospace.
• Work closely with senior patent attorneys to assist in all aspects of patent prosecution, including preparing and filing applications.
• Conduct thorough patent searches and prepare reports on findings.
• Draft office action responses and engage with patent examiners on behalf of clients.
• Perform infringement analyses to help clients protect their intellectual property.
• Manage to docket effectively to ensure deadlines are met and nothing slips through the cracks.
• Maintain and organize patent portfolios, working with paralegals and other team members.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of patent drafting experience.
• Proven experience in patent prosecution, managing patent portfolios, and interacting with patent examiners.
• Exceptional time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills to ensure efficient docket management.
• Comfort with taking ownership of tasks and managing your work schedule.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, or similar).
• A registered patent agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Certifications

• USPTO Registration (required).

Skills

• Expertise in patent prosecution and drafting patent applications.
• Strong research and analytical skills, particularly in the context of patent searches and infringement analysis.
• Experience with international patent portfolio management (preferred).
• Familiarity with PTAB (Patent Trial and Appeal Board) proceedings (preferred).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
