Associate Attorney with 2-8 years of experience

A law firm in New York City is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney with 2-8 years of experience, admitted in both New York and New Jersey, to join their team. Key Responsibilities:

• Handle a range of professional liability defense cases, managing all aspects of litigation from inception through resolution.
• Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and briefs, and represent clients in court or during alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
• Defend professionals, including attorneys, accountants, and other service providers, against claims of malpractice or negligence.
• Manage discovery, including depositions, document production, and witness preparation.
• Collaborate with clients to develop defense strategies and provide ongoing legal counsel on matters related to professional liability.
• Participate in case evaluations, mediations, and settlement negotiations, working toward favorable outcomes for clients.
• Meet a minimum of 1,900 billable hours annually, with the opportunity to earn additional compensation for hours exceeding the requirement, at $50/hour.
• Maintain clear and regular communication with clients, providing updates and strategic advice throughout the course of the litigation.

Qualifications and Experience:

• 2-8 years of experience in civil litigation, with a focus on professional liability defense preferred.
• Admitted to practice in both New York and New Jersey.
• Experience handling all phases of litigation, from pleadings through trial or settlement.
• Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills, with the ability to draft effective legal documents and present arguments persuasively in court.
• Ability to manage a diverse caseload while maintaining excellent attention to detail and meeting deadlines.

Educational Background:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active and in good standing with the New York and New Jersey State Bars.

Certifications:

• Continuing Legal Education (CLE) in professional liability, civil litigation, or related areas is preferred but not required.
