A law firm in Petoskey, MI is seeking an Estate Planning and Estate Administration Attorney to assist with its busy estate planning and administration practice. The attorney will be responsible for managing estate planning matters, including drafting wills, trusts, and other estate-related documents, as well as handling estate administration processes. The ideal candidate will be experienced in estate planning and probate matters, with strong communication and organizational skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of estate planning and administration matters, providing legal counsel and services to clients in areas such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and health care directives.
  • Draft and review estate planning documents, including trust agreements, wills, guardianships, and other relevant legal instruments.
  • Guide clients through the estate planning process, providing advice on how to manage and protect assets, minimize taxes, and ensure their estate planning goals are met.

  • Provide legal advice on estate tax planning, ensuring compliance with state and federal tax laws while maximizing tax efficiency for clients.
  • Assist clients with setting up guardianships and conservatorships when necessary to manage the affairs of minors or incapacitated individuals.
  • Collaborate with financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to ensure a comprehensive approach to estate planning and administration.
  • Represent clients in probate court and during other legal proceedings related to estate administration.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, keeping them informed about the status of their case and advising on potential issues or changes in estate law.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in estate planning and estate administration matters, including drafting wills, trusts, and probate-related documents.
  • Strong knowledge of Michigan estate law, including probate procedures and tax implications related to estate planning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues to clients clearly and understandably.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Michigan State Bar is required.
