Job Overview:
A growing law firm is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Family Wealth Planning Associate to join its trusts and estates practice. The successful candidate will collaborate with a talented team and have opportunities to grow professionally, with the potential for partnership. Location:

  • Columbus, OH

Duties:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with current clients while attracting new clients through networking and marketing activities.
  • Independently manage all aspects of the following areas:
    • A/B trust plans
    • Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts
    • Gift Trusts
    • Irrevocable Grantor Trusts
    • Private Settlement Agreements
    • Estate administration processes
    • Guardianships (both person and estate)
    • Gift tax return preparation
    • Federal estate tax return preparation (including portability)
  • Develop and maintain relationships with referral sources and clients.
  • Participate in public speaking engagements, contribute to newsletters, and support marketing and business development efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Family Wealth Planning team on cases and client matters.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Ohio.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in trusts and estates law.
  • Experience with estate and gift tax return preparation; fiduciary income tax and probate litigation experience are a plus.
  • Active involvement in the local probate bar or other relevant legal associations.
  • Strong research, legal writing, organizational, and case management skills.
  • Ability to manage complex matters independently and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset for developing new client relationships.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Ohio.

Skills:

  • Expertise in trusts and estates law, including estate and gift tax return preparation.
  • Strong research, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle complex legal matters independently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Entrepreneurial approach to business development and client relationships.
