A law firm seeks an experienced Senior Immigration Associate Attorney to join a fast-growing, dynamic immigration law team in Houston. This position offers significant room for professional development and the chance to take on challenging cases in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have at least four years of immigration law experience and will be able to handle a diverse caseload, interact directly with clients, and contribute to the overall strategic direction of cases.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel on a wide range of immigration issues, presenting clients with strategic solutions to complex legal matters.
  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals, advocating for non-detained and detained individuals.
  • Manage a caseload of diverse immigration matters, including removal defense, family-based immigration petitions, and more.
  • Conduct client intakes and visits detained individuals at detention centers for case assessments.
  • Prepare and review immigration applications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with the law.
  • Work with law enforcement, community-based organizations, and prosecutorial offices to stay updated on changes in immigration law.
  • Develop and execute case strategies, preparing clients and witnesses for court appearances and USCIS interviews.
  • Draft and submit legal briefs and motions for various immigration cases.
  • Conduct consultations with potential clients to determine their immigration needs and establish a clear legal strategy.
  • Provide ongoing legal analysis to clients regarding potential benefits and outcomes of their cases.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience practicing immigration law.
  • Proven ability to handle complex immigration cases, including removal defense, family-based petitions, humanitarian applications, and USCIS processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to independently manage a caseload while maintaining high levels of client service and attention to detail.
  • Preferably bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Strong organizational skills, with experience using case management software.
  • A team-oriented mindset, with a willingness to collaborate and strategize with fellow attorneys and legal assistants.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admitted to the State Bar and authorized to practice law in Texas.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of immigration law, including EOIR proceedings, family-based petitions, humanitarian relief, and USCIS applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to draft legal documents and present legal arguments.
  • Client-focused with the ability to assess needs, develop strategies, and achieve results.
  • Familiarity with legal research, case law, and changes in immigration legislation.
  • Proficient in case management software and Microsoft Office suite.
