Patent Agent

Job Overview: A law firm in Alexandria, VA, seeks a motivated Patent Agent to join their team. The role involves drafting patent applications and managing the prosecution of patents both domestically and internationally.

Duties:

• Draft patent applications in collaboration with inventors and attorneys.
• Conduct prior art searches and analyze technical documents.
• Assist in prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and global patent offices.
• Communicate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders regarding patent strategy and prosecution updates.

Requirements:

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a related scientific field.
• Ability to think critically, understand complex technologies and articulate technical concepts clearly in writing.
• Preferably some experience in patent drafting and prosecution.
• Must be registered to practice before the USPTO or willing to sit for the registration exam.

Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and research abilities.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and patent search databases.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or related scientific discipline.

Certifications:

• Registered Patent Agent before the USPTO (preferred).
