A law firm in Seattle, WA, is seeking an IP Life Sciences Patent Agent with a strong background in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, immunology, molecular biology, or related fields. The ideal candidate will contribute to the firm's life sciences practice by providing expertise in patent prosecution and strategic intellectual property counsel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the life sciences sector, working closely with attorneys and clients.
  • Conduct patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Assist in managing and developing patent portfolios.
  • Participate in due diligence investigations for intellectual property transactions.
  • Stay informed about changes in patent laws and regulations affecting the life sciences industry.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, scientists, and legal professionals regarding patent matters.

Requirements:

  • PhD or MD in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, oncology, or a related scientific field.
  • Preferably, post-doctoral research experience.
  • USPTO registration number in good standing.
  • Superior academic credentials with a strong record of research accomplishments.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Experience:

  • 1+ years of legal practice experience, preferably within a law firm, focusing on patent prosecution in the life sciences sector.
  • Familiarity with patent drafting, prosecution procedures, and intellectual property strategy specific to life sciences innovations.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in conducting patent searches and analyses.
