A law firm in Detroit is seeking a Patent Agent with 1-6 years of law firm or in-house patent prosecution experience. The candidate will work under the supervision and guidance of partners in the IP practice group to draft and prosecute patents. The role involves assessing scientific literature, patents, and patent application documents related to mechanical and electrical arts. The Patent Agent will work on cutting-edge technologies, building IP portfolios, and collaborating with clients to procure patent protection.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft and prosecute patents under the supervision of IP practice group partners.
  • Assess scientific literature, patents, and patent application documents in mechanical and electrical arts.
  • Provide insightful opinions on scientific data related to inventions.
  • Conduct comprehensive searches for scientific articles, patents, and patent application documents.
  • Perform in-depth analysis comparing inventions with existing discoveries or inventions.
  • Identify essential elements, features, or components of inventions.
  • Compose comprehensive patent applications, including background, critical features, and distinct claims.
  • Draft responses to patent application rejections, analyzing references and providing convincing arguments.
  • Collaborate with clients on innovative and cutting-edge technologies for patent protection.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) in science or engineering.
  • USPTO or Bar admission required.

 

Experience:

1-6 years of law firm or in-house patent prosecution experience.

 

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical arts.
  • Analytical skills for scientific data and patent references.
  • Drafting and prosecution expertise for patent applications.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration with clients and partners.
  • Ability to work on cutting-edge technologies and build IP portfolios.
