Job Overview: A law firm seeks a Privacy and Cyber Security Associate Attorney to provide comprehensive legal counsel on U.S.-focused privacy and data-related compliance issues. The role involves advising clients across various industries, leading compliance projects, and developing tailored strategies to mitigate privacy risks.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on U.S. privacy laws and regulations, including CCPA, WA MHMD, and other state privacy laws.
  • Conduct compliance gap assessments and develop robust compliance programs.
  • Draft privacy policies, business-facing guidance, DSR procedures, incident response plans, contracting templates, and data sale/sharing advice.
  • Provide counsel on ad tech, cookies/online trackers, TCPA, CAN-SPAM, and DAA/NAI/IAB self-regulatory rules.
  • Support clients in the financial and health/life sciences sectors on GLBA, CALFIPA, FCRA, HIPAA, and state health privacy laws.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of practical experience in data privacy counseling.
  • Expertise in implementing state privacy laws and regulatory frameworks.
  • Familiarity with privacy regulations for the financial and health/life sciences sectors.
  • Previous experience in large law firms preferred; boutique specialists considered.
  • Admission to practice law in Washington, DC is mandatory.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) certifications preferred (CIPP-US, CIPT, CIPM).

Skills:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and work well under pressure.
