Job Overview:
A respected law firm in San Jose, CA is seeking a qualified Immigration Attorney to join its growing team. This position provides an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 1-4 years of experience to expand their immigration law practice. The ideal candidate will be able to manage a caseload, work with clients, and collaborate with a team of attorneys and legal assistants on a variety of immigration matters. Duties:

  • Explain immigration laws and present strategic legal solutions to clients
  • Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
  • Manage a diverse caseload, ensuring each case progresses effectively
  • Conduct intakes with detained individuals at centers
  • Prepare a variety of immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions
  • Review and make adjustments to immigration applications and related documents
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations on immigration law changes
  • Provide strategic immigration consultations to potential clients and develop necessary legal strategies
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for court or USCIS testimony
  • Provide legal analysis to identify potential benefits for clients’ cases
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for immigration cases

Requirements:

  • 1 to 4 years of experience in immigration law
  • Ability to manage a caseload and move legal cases forward
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A team player who is willing to collaborate and strategize with fellow associates
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Experience with Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian relief, EOIR, Detained cases, Citizenship, and other USCIS applications
  • Experience with case management software is preferred

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the bar (California or eligibility to waive into California bar preferred)

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership (California bar preferred)

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
