A law firm in Austin, TX is seeking an Insurance Regulatory Counsel. The counsel will work in general insurance regulatory and compliance practice in collaboration with and support of senior attorneys. Responsibilities include counseling clients on insurance regulatory matters, assisting with regulatory filings, advising on corporate transactions, and conducting regulatory and compliance research. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in any area of insurance, with a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and appropriate licensure.

 

Duties:

  • Counseling clients regarding licensing/authorizing insurance companies, product evaluation, form/rate filing, general insurance regulatory compliance, and financial examination issues.
  • Assisting clients with regulatory filings associated with mergers, acquisitions, and changes in corporate structure.
  • Licensing of producers, MGAs, TPA, and other insurance adjacent entities, and compliance related to compensation, advertising, and rebating/inducements.
  • Advising on holding company act transactions.
  • Researching, evaluating, and advising on reinsurance, investment compliance, corporate governance, financial reporting, and insolvencies.
  • Conducting regulatory and compliance research and analysis on a multi-state basis.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to a US State Bar in good standing.
  • 3-5 years of experience in any area of insurance.
  • Corporate experience is a plus.
  • Experience with one or more state Department of Insurance or Insurance Company Legal or Compliance Division is a plus.

 

Education:

Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

 

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of insurance regulatory law and compliance.
  • Experience in property casualty, health insurance, life insurance, annuities, and variable products.
  • National Association of Insurance Commissioner (NAIC) monitoring and general regulatory affairs.
  • PC literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
