Senior Immigration Attorney

A law firm seeks a qualified and dedicated Senior Immigration Attorney to join its expanding team in Sacramento, CA. Duties:

• Advise and guide clients through complex immigration law matters, including removal defense, family-based petitions, and USCIS applications.
• Represent both detained and non-detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
• Manage a caseload, ensuring efficient handling and timely resolution of cases.
• Conduct intakes with detained clients at detention centers, assessing their legal status and advising them on their options.
• Prepare and file a variety of immigration-related applications, including removal defense, family-based immigration petitions, and other relevant petitions.
• Review immigration packets and ensure all necessary adjustments are made for accuracy and compliance.
• Liaise with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations to stay updated on changes to immigration laws and policies.
• Meet with potential clients to discuss case strategies and determine the best legal course of action.
• Develop strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court appearances and USCIS interviews.
• Provide legal analysis to help clients understand the potential benefits of their cases.
• Draft and submit legal briefs for various immigration cases, ensuring clear and persuasive arguments.

Requirements:

• At least 3 years of experience in immigration law.
• Proven ability to manage a caseload and advance cases through the immigration system.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues.
• Demonstrated success in handling removal defense, family-based petitions, and other immigration-related matters.
• Experience with EOIR (Executive Office for Immigration Review), detained cases, and humanitarian relief applications.
• Proficiency in case management software is preferred.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaborate effectively with a team.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Active membership in the California State Bar (or eligible to practice in California).

• Strong understanding of immigration law, including family-based petitions, removal defense, and USCIS applications.
• Excellent legal writing and research skills, with a focus on drafting legal briefs and motions.
