A law firm seeks an experienced Senior Associate or Special Counsel with a strong focus on litigation and regulatory enforcement related to privacy and data security matters. This role offers the opportunity to join a dynamic team handling cutting-edge cases and regulatory investigations in the areas of consumer protection, data breaches, and privacy law. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in managing complex privacy litigation, investigations, and class actions, as well as a strong ability to engage directly with clients and lead significant projects.

Duties:

  • Litigation & Regulatory Investigations:
    • Represent clients in privacy and data security-related litigation, including class actions and investigations.
    • Manage and advise clients on regulatory enforcement actions from agencies such as State Attorneys General, the FTC, and other privacy regulators.
    • Defend clients in cases involving consumer protection issues, such as wiretapping claims, unfair trade practices, and data breach actions.
  • Client Interaction & Project Leadership:
    • Directly engage with clients to provide strategic counsel on data privacy and cybersecurity issues.
    • Lead and manage significant projects in both the regulatory and litigation spaces.
  • Legal Research & Analysis:
    • Conduct in-depth legal research and prepare clear, concise, and well-reasoned legal analyses.
    • Stay updated on privacy law developments and industry trends to effectively advise clients.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with other attorneys across multiple practice areas, including corporate, intellectual property, and compliance teams, to support privacy and cybersecurity matters.

Requirements:

  • At least 7 years of experience in privacy and data security law, with a focus on regulatory enforcement or litigation.
  • Proven track record of handling regulatory investigations and defending clients in data privacy and cybersecurity litigation, including class actions.
  • Experience with consumer protection law, including issues like the Stored Communications Act and wiretapping claims.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to draft persuasive legal documents and communicate complex ideas to clients and stakeholders.
  • Tech-savvy, with an understanding of emerging data privacy and security technologies and trends.
  • Ability to lead projects independently and collaborate effectively within a team.

Education:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active and current license to practice law in the U.S.
