Job Overview
A reputable law firm in Washington, DC, is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney with at least 5 years of experience to join their nonprofit law practice. The position will involve working with various nonprofit clients, including §501(c)(3), (c)(4), and (c)(6) organizations. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in legal research, drafting memos, legal analysis, reviewing leases and contracts, and providing general counsel on a variety of matters. The role also offers the opportunity for professional development and client interaction, with some business travel required. A hybrid work-from-home schedule may be possible after an initial probationary period.

Duties

  • Handle a variety of matters for nonprofit clients, including §501(c)(3), (c)(4), and (c)(6) organizations

  • Conduct legal research and legal analysis

  • Draft memos, opinions, and legal correspondence

  • Review leases, contracts, and other legal documents

  • Assist in setting up new nonprofit organizations and preparing for tax-exempt status

  • Attend meetings as general/antitrust counsel

  • Develop relationships with clients and take on increasing responsibility for transactions

  • Participate in industry conferences and events

  • Occasional business travel

Requirements

  • 5+ years of legal experience, preferably in nonprofit law

  • Strong academic credentials (JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school, top 25% of class)

  • Ability to independently manage transactions and provide legal counsel

  • Experience in legal research, writing, and analysis

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Confidence in asking questions and solving problems efficiently

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Top 25% of class

Certifications

  • Member in good standing of the bar in at least one state (DC bar or the ability to waive in)
