Job Title: Litigation Attorney

Job Overview: A reputable law firm located in Chicago, IL, is currently seeking an experienced Litigation Attorney to join its team. This role involves handling civil and general litigation matters with an emphasis on client-centered strategies and a strong drive for success in high-stakes cases. The ideal candidate will have a diverse legal background and be adept at navigating complex litigation environments.

Duties:

• Represent clients in state and federal civil litigation, including general litigation, insurance coverage/defense, premises liability, and negligence cases.
• Handle all aspects of litigation, including depositions, discovery, and motions practice.
• Participate in expert witness discovery and ESI (electronically stored information) discovery.
• Draft and respond to discovery requests.
• Write and argue legal motions in court.
• Demonstrate proficiency in trial preparation and execution.
• Stay well-versed in Illinois and federal court rules and evidence procedures.
• Lead remote depositions as needed.
• Effectively communicate with clients, colleagues, and external partners.
• Actively manage cases and contribute to client relationships with a potential for business development.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in state and federal civil and general litigation.
• Experience in various practice areas such as insurance coverage/defense, premises liability/general negligence, insurance liability, and general litigation
• Experience in deposition handling and expert witness discovery.
• Familiarity with Electronic Discovery and ESI processes.
• Trial experience preferred.
• Solid understanding of Illinois and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence.
• Comfortable working with new software and technology, including remote deposition tools.
• Strong legal research, writing, and communication abilities.
• Ability to handle significant client interaction and foster business development.
• A portable book of business is a plus.
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active membership and good standing in the Illinois Bar.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

• An active member of the Illinois State Bar, in good standing.
