Senior Family Law Attorney

Job Overview: A prestigious law firm based in Oxon Hill, MD, is seeking a Senior Family Law Attorney with expertise in family law, divorce, and estate planning. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to lead legal cases, provide expert counsel to clients, and work closely with a dynamic legal team. The successful candidate will oversee a range of family law matters, with a focus on delivering personalized legal solutions to clients.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in court proceedings, advocating effectively for their needs.
  • Manage division of marital assets, including real estate, in divorce cases.
  • Develop strategic action plans after analyzing client situations.
  • Handle all aspects of legal cases from inception to resolution.
  • Conduct legal research and draft reports on key case matters.
  • Maintain an organized system for client files and case documents.
  • Schedule and manage court appearances, hearings, and meetings.
  • Communicate clearly with clients, senior attorneys, and paralegals.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior legal staff and paralegals.
  • Prepare legal documents, including motions, briefs, and pleadings.
  • Oversee trial preparation and client readiness for court.
  • Collaborate with expert witnesses when necessary.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with both current and prospective clients.
  • Uphold professionalism during court and client interactions.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of family law litigation experience.
  • Proven courtroom experience, including trial preparation and advocacy.
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active law license in DC.
  • Strong negotiation, persuasion, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and work within a team.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Drive and G-Suite tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Estate planning experience is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with MyCase (case management system) is a plus.
  • A Maryland Bar license waiver is highly desired.
  • Strong creative problem-solving abilities.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in the District of Columbia.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice in the District of Columbia.
  • Maryland Bar license preferred or eligible for waiver.
