Job Title: Entry-Level Immigration Attorney

Job Overview:
A law firm located in Chicago, IL is actively seeking a motivated Entry-Level Immigration Attorney to join its dynamic immigration practice group. This position provides an excellent foundation for a newly licensed attorney or early-career professional to gain substantive experience in both detained and non-detained immigration matters. The role offers the opportunity to manage cases, interact directly with clients, and contribute to a collaborative legal team focused on family-based petitions, removal defense, and humanitarian relief.

Duties:

  • Interpret immigration statutes and deliver actionable legal guidance to clients

  • Represent individuals in both detained and non-detained immigration proceedings before EOIR and the BIA

  • Conduct intake visits with detained individuals at immigration detention centers

  • Prepare and file a wide range of immigration applications, including asylum, cancellation of removal, and family-based petitions

  • Draft legal briefs and supporting documents for immigration relief applications

  • Assist in strategizing legal approaches for each client’s case, including appellate review

  • Work closely with federal agencies, community organizations, and law enforcement on immigration-related initiatives

  • Conduct client consultations and explain legal remedies based on individualized case assessments

  • Guide clients and witnesses in preparation for hearings and USCIS interviews

  • Review case files and applications, ensuring accuracy and completeness before submission

Requirements:

  • 0-3 years of focused experience in immigration law

  • Admission to the Bar and good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a case docket independently

  • Willingness to travel to detention centers or other sites as needed

  • Demonstrated interest or background in humanitarian and removal defense matters

  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues in a team-oriented environment

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Bar membership in any U.S. state (Illinois preferred)

Skills:

  • Fluent or proficient in Spanish is highly preferred

  • High-level interpersonal and client-facing communication skills

  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents and preparing filings under tight deadlines

  • Experience or familiarity with immigration case management software

  • Detail-oriented with a focus on compliance and accuracy in filings
