A law firm in Ruidoso, NM is seeking a dedicated Civil Rights Associate Attorney to join its growing team. This exciting role provides an opportunity to advocate for individuals whose civil rights have been violated. The ideal candidate will bring litigation experience, strong legal research skills, and a commitment to advancing civil rights case law. This position involves participating in a wide range of civil rights cases, from case screening to trial and resolution, while working alongside a collaborative team of attorneys.

Duties:

  • Evaluate potential civil rights cases, conducting comprehensive legal research to assess merits before taking on cases.

  • Engage in all stages of litigation, including drafting and preparing pleadings, managing discovery, and researching, writing, and arguing complex motions.

  • Take and defend depositions and attend court hearings as required.

  • Collaborate closely with clients, including those from diverse backgrounds such as incarcerated individuals.

  • Work with senior attorneys and legal teams to develop case strategies and case law.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Active law license in good standing.

  • 2-5 years of litigation experience, with a preference for civil rights and/or constitutional law experience, including trial experience.

  • Proven research and legal writing skills, particularly in drafting complex motions and case law analysis.

  • Experience in depositions, court hearings, and appeals.

  • Strong passion for civil rights and justice advocacy.

  • Ability to independently manage cases while collaborating with a team of legal professionals.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active, unrestricted license to practice law in the jurisdiction.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and analytical abilities.

  • Excellent writing and drafting skills for motions, briefs, and other legal documents.

  • Experience in litigation, including depositions, hearings, and trial preparation.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
