This role requires an individual with at least 10 years of experience in labor and employment law, offering an opportunity to engage in diverse legal challenges while providing strategic counsel to employers across a broad range of industries. This position emphasizes litigation, regulatory guidance, and proactive risk management solutions, contributing to a culture of collaboration and client success.

Duties:

  • Legal Defense & Litigation: Represent clients in federal and state courts, handling a wide variety of employment-related cases, including jury trials.
  • Regulatory Advice: Offer counsel to public and private employers on federal and state labor and employment laws, including compliance with regulations and handling agency charges.
  • Document Drafting: Prepare and revise legally sound policies, employee handbooks, contracts, separation agreements, and other employment-related documentation.
  • Investigations & Risk Management: Conduct or assist with internal investigations, and audits, and provide risk management strategies to minimize legal exposure.
  • Safety Compliance: Advise clients on occupational health and safety laws, assist with compliance, and defend against safety-related claims and lawsuits.
  • Labor Relations Strategy: Develop policies and strategies for employers seeking to remain union-free, including addressing union-related matters.
  • Unionized Employer Support: Guide unionized employers on collective bargaining, grievance defense, and arbitration processes.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 10 years in labor and employment law, with extensive experience handling complex legal cases and providing strategic counsel.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of local, state, and federal labor laws, including anti-discrimination, wage and hour, safety regulations, employee rights, and workplace accommodations.
  • License: Must be licensed or eligible to become licensed to practice law in Nebraska.
  • Client-Focused: Ability to provide exceptional client service with a focus on responsiveness and building long-term relationships.
  • Productivity: Proven ability to produce high-quality legal work efficiently.
  • Communication: Strong skills in explaining complex legal matters clearly and concisely.
  • Autonomy & Initiative: Ability to handle cases independently with minimal supervision and take proactive responsibility.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in the state of Nebraska or eligibility to obtain licensure.
