Job Overview: A well-established law firm located in Petoskey, MI, is looking for a skilled and motivated Litigation Associate Attorney to join their team. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and growing legal team with a focus on civil and general litigation. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in litigation, including experience in complex cases, depositions, and legal research.

Duties:

  • Handle a wide range of civil and general litigation matters, including auto negligence, premises liability, and insurance liability.
  • Conduct depositions and manage discovery requests, including drafting and responding to motions.
  • Represent clients in court, including the preparation and argument of motions.
  • Perform legal research and draft legal briefs in support of litigation.
  • Manage case files and maintain effective communication with clients.
  • Analyze and understand medical records and other evidence related to cases.
  • Stay updated on Michigan Court Rules, Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, and Rules of Evidence.

Requirements:

  • 3-7 years of experience in civil and general litigation.
  • Strong deposition experience and the ability to manage complex litigation tasks.
  • Experience in auto negligence, premises liability or general negligence matters, and general insurance liability.
  • Demonstrated expertise in auto negligence, premises liability, and insurance liability cases.
  • Experience in drafting and arguing motions.
  • Solid understanding of medical records and how they apply in litigation.
  • Proficiency in legal research and writing legal briefs.
  • Knowledge of Michigan Court Rules and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new legal software and technology.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Member in good standing with the Michigan State Bar.
