A law firm is seeking a Mid-level Associate Attorney in Environmental & Permitting to join the Energy & Infrastructure team in either New York. This role involves working on a wide range of complex transactions related to renewables and infrastructure, with a focus on environmental compliance and permitting.

Location

  • New York, NY

Duties

  • Assess environmental risks of proposed transactions with guidance from the broader team.
  • Conduct legal research on federal and state statutes, regulations, and case law; draft memos summarizing findings.
  • Coordinate with and review local environmental counsel’s research and due diligence inquiries.
  • Review environmental reports and permits; draft due diligence inquiries and reports.
  • Edit indemnity, representations, and warranties provisions in transaction agreements to address environmental risks.
  • Assist sponsors in identifying and obtaining necessary permits for project development.

Requirements

  • U.S. J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar and/or D.C. Bar.
  • Background in U.S. environmental laws, including CERCLA, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act.
  • Experience with U.S. domestic renewables (solar, wind, energy storage) is a plus.
  • Transactional experience is advantageous.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to relevant state bars (New York and/or D.C.).

Skills

  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Familiarity with ESG matters is a plus.
