Job Title: Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney – Japanese Language Fluency Required

Job Overview:
A leading law firm in San Francisco, CA, is seeking a highly skilled Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney to join its Electronics & Software practice group. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience handling U.S. patent applications and must be fluent in both Japanese and English to collaborate effectively with the firm's Tokyo office.

Duties:

  • Manage and prosecute U.S. patent applications for technology clients, focusing on Electronics and Software.
  • Work closely with internal teams and clients to draft, file, and prosecute patent applications.
  • Communicate with foreign counsel and clients in both English and Japanese.
  • Prepare legal documents related to patent prosecution, including Office Actions, responses, and appeals.
  • Provide strategic advice to clients regarding patent portfolios, technology trends, and patent strategy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient patent management and protection.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in patent prosecution, specifically related to U.S. patents.
  • Fluency in Japanese and English, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented and able to handle complex legal documents and communications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with clients and colleagues in different regions.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.

Certifications:

  • USPTO Registered Patent Attorney (required).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in drafting patent applications and responses to Office Actions.
  • In-depth understanding of patent prosecution procedures and requirements.
  • Ability to manage complex patent portfolios for clients in the electronics and software sectors.
  • Fluent in Japanese and English, with the ability to translate technical information.
