Job Overview:
A top-tier global law firm is seeking a Patent Agent to join its award-winning Intellectual Property (IP) Practice Group. This role involves preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The Patent Agent will work closely with partners, providing high-quality legal services to both domestic and international clients. The position offers a hybrid work schedule and can be based in several key office locations, with opportunities to engage in diverse and advanced technical fields such as electrical, computer, and mechanical engineering.

Location:

  • Seattle, Washington

Duties:

  • Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO
  • Perform prior art searches and conduct patentability analysis
  • Participate in IP due diligence activities
  • Build and maintain client relationships through practice development efforts
  • Prepare substantive client correspondence
  • Instruct local counsel for foreign filings and Office Actions
  • Assist in patent clearance studies and other patent-related opinion projects
  • Apply advanced technical concepts across various technology fields, focusing on electrical, computer, and mechanical engineering
  • Study and analyze scientific or technical documents to assess patentability, novelty, and inventiveness
  • Convert provisional patent applications into utility applications
  • Convert foreign applications into U.S. applications and vice versa

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in prosecuting or examining patent applications in the electrical arts
  • Experience in patent prosecution in technology fields such as electrical, computer, or mechanical engineering
  • Ability to manage client-facing responsibilities
  • Strong organizational, writing, and research skills
  • Proficient in both written and verbal communication

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or eligible to sit for the USPTO patent agent exam

Skills:

  • Proficient in patent prosecution and technical patent analysis
  • Strong ability to apply advanced concepts in various technical fields
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
  • Client relationship management and development skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
