A law firm is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Construction Attorney to join their team in Richmond, VA. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in construction law, including mediation, arbitration, and trials in state and federal courts. This role involves negotiating and drafting construction contracts, counseling clients on various compliance and dispute issues, and litigating construction-related claims.

 

Key Duties:

  • Represent clients in construction-related litigation, including construction defects, delays, cost overruns, bid protests, subcontractor disputes, and products liability.
  • Participate in mediation, arbitration, and trials in both state and federal courts.
  • Negotiate and draft construction contracts for owners, tenants, contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals.
  • Counsel clients on OSHA compliance, investigations, citations, and disputes.
  • Handle issues related to licensing, delays and inefficiency, defective work, payment disputes, performance and payment bonds, and mechanic’s liens.
  • Advise clients on design and construction matters.
  • Defend matters before the Construction Board.
  • Provide legal support on the use of AIA forms and LEED certification.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and legal professionals within the firm to deliver optimal client outcomes.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and provide ongoing legal counsel.
  • Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations relevant to construction law.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Virginia.
  • Licenses to practice in states other than VA and NC will also be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction law.
  • Proven experience in mediation and arbitration.
  • Strong litigation skills, including trials in state and federal courts.
  • Knowledge and experience in negotiating and drafting construction contracts.
  • Familiarity with AIA forms and LEED certification is preferred.
  • Experience defending matters before the Construction Board is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide effective solutions.
  • High ethical standards and professional integrity.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

 

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Virginia.
  • Licenses to practice in states other than VA and NC will also be considered.
