A law firm seeks an experienced and dedicated Immigration Attorney to join its growing team in San Jose. This opportunity offers a dynamic and rewarding career path with significant room for growth. The ideal candidate will have 1-4 years of immigration law experience and will be responsible for managing a variety of immigration cases, working directly with clients, and collaborating with a supportive legal team. This position provides a chance to work on complex legal matters while advancing your professional expertise in immigration law.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel and strategic solutions for clients regarding immigration matters
  • Represent individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals
  • Handle a caseload, including both detained and non-detained clients
  • Conduct intake interviews with detained individuals at detention centers
  • Prepare and review immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutors, and community-based organizations on immigration law matters
  • Meet with potential clients for consultations and develop tailored legal strategies
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for hearings and testimony before USCIS and the courts
  • Analyze immigration cases to identify any potential legal benefits for clients
  • Draft and submit legal briefs and motions for a variety of immigration cases

Requirements:

  • 1-4 years of experience in immigration law
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize a caseload
  • A collaborative team player, open to supporting colleagues and sharing strategies
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred, but not required
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to clients clearly
  • Experience handling Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian Applications, EOIR, Detained Cases, Citizenship, and other USCIS-related matters
  • Familiarity with Case Management Software is preferred

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active bar admission (candidates awaiting bar admission will be considered)

  • In-depth understanding of immigration law and procedures
  • Excellent communication and legal writing skills
  • Ability to strategize and adapt legal approaches based on each case's needs
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating within a team
