A law firm seeks a talented and driven Employee Benefits Associate to join its team in Houston. This is a fantastic opportunity for an attorney with 1-4 years of experience in ERISA and employee benefits law, including work with qualified plans, multiemployer pension plans, health and welfare plans, and ACA compliance. Ideal candidates will also have exposure to M&A and/or restructuring in the context of employee benefits. Those with a background in related fields such as tax, labor, benefits advisory, or consulting are encouraged to apply. Duties:

  • Advise clients on a wide range of employee benefits issues, including compliance with ERISA, qualified plans, multiemployer pension plans, and health and welfare plans.
  • Assist clients with ACA compliance and related regulatory matters.
  • Support M&A transactions by advising on employee benefits and compensation arrangements, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.
  • Guide on restructuring matters, with a focus on employee benefits considerations.
  • Collaborate with clients to address complex issues surrounding employee compensation and benefits plans.
  • Work alongside senior attorneys to develop strategies and solutions for client challenges in the employee benefits sector.

Requirements:

  • 1-4 years of experience in ERISA and employee benefits law.
  • Experience with qualified plans, multiemployer pension plans, health and welfare plans, and ACA compliance.
  • Exposure to M&A or restructuring within the employee benefits context is highly valued.
  • Strong interest in expanding knowledge and expertise in employee benefits law.
  • Exceptional legal research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Strong academic credentials.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the relevant state bar (Texas) or eligibility to gain admission promptly.

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of ERISA, employee benefits, and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents and providing legal advice on employee benefits matters.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and colleagues.
