A law firm seeks a dedicated and ambitious Entry-Level Immigration Attorney to join its growing team in Bakersfield. This is a fantastic opportunity for a newly admitted attorney or someone with limited experience in immigration law to gain hands-on experience in a collaborative, supportive environment. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse caseload, representing individuals in removal proceedings and other immigration-related matters, while working closely with experienced attorneys and legal professionals.

Duties:

  • Assist clients in understanding complex immigration issues and devise appropriate legal strategies.
  • Represent detained and non-detained individuals in immigration removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Manage an assigned caseload efficiently, ensuring timely progression of cases and compliance with all legal requirements.
  • Conduct intake interviews with detained individuals and assess their cases for possible legal relief.
  • Prepare and file a variety of immigration petitions, including family-based immigration and removal defense.
  • Review immigration applications for accuracy and compliance, and make any necessary adjustments.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations on changes in immigration laws.
  • Meet with potential clients to evaluate their legal needs and provide counsel on their immigration options.
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for hearings and interviews, including court proceedings and USCIS testimony.
  • Draft and submit legal briefs, motions, and other filings for a range of immigration cases.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in immigration law (law school internships or clinics may be considered).
  • Strong team-oriented approach, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on client service and relationship-building.
  • Proven ability to manage and progress legal cases while adhering to deadlines and procedural requirements.
  • Experience in family-based petitions, humanitarian applications, EOIR cases, and detained cases is a plus.
  • Familiarity with case management software is preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar admission (new law school graduates awaiting admission will be considered).

Skills:

  • Strong legal writing and research skills.
  • Ability to explain complex legal concepts in an accessible manner to clients.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases at once.
  • Knowledge of immigration law, especially family-based petitions, humanitarian relief, EOIR proceedings, and citizenship applications.
