Job Overview

A prestigious law firm specializing in nonprofit law is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its Washington, D.C. office. The firm works exclusively with nonprofit entities and their funders, offering legal advice on tax, corporate law, compliance, and other areas unique to the nonprofit sector. This role is ideal for an attorney with at least four years of tax or transactional experience who is passionate about supporting organizations committed to social justice, civil rights, environmental responsibility, and other philanthropic goals.

Duties

  • Advise nonprofit clients on tax and corporate laws specific to the nonprofit sector.
  • Provide legal guidance on nonprofit structures, compliance, and governance.
  • Assist clients with issues related to social enterprise, lobbying, political advocacy, and international philanthropy.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents related to nonprofit activities.
  • Collaborate with a team of attorneys to address complex legal challenges unique to nonprofit organizations.
  • Stay current with legal developments impacting the nonprofit sector.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of experience in tax or transactional law, or related professional experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in the nonprofit sector.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and manage diverse client needs.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the bar (D.C. Bar preferred, or eligibility to waive in).

Skills

  • Expertise in tax and corporate law as it pertains to nonprofit organizations.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in managing complex legal issues and providing strategic advice.
