Job Overview: A law firm in Columbia, MD, is seeking a Senior Associate Attorney to manage a practice group and provide legal representation in employment law, professional license defense, and national security clearance matters. This role involves overseeing legal proceedings, advising clients, and contributing to business development efforts.

Duties:

  • Serve in a dual role as a practice group manager and client representative in legal proceedings.
  • Manage and guide attorneys, paralegals, and support staff.
  • Represent clients in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies.
  • Counsel employers on employment law issues and legal proceedings.
  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, discovery, and motions.
  • Advise licensed professionals facing investigations or disciplinary actions.
  • Negotiate settlements for legal disputes.
  • Engage in business development activities, including networking and presentations.
  • Meet established billable hour requirements.
  • Handle court appearances, depositions, and trials.

Requirements:

  • 6-10 years of experience in employment law or complex civil litigation, with team leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Preferably, Journal or Law Review experience.
  • Experience in federal sector cases, handling proposed removals and suspensions, and representing clients before the U.S. EEOC and the MSPB.
  • Licensed to practice law in Maryland; DC Bar membership preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent research and writing abilities.
  • Ability to build strong client relationships.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • An active license to practice law in Maryland; DC Bar membership is preferred.
