Title: Employee Benefits Attorney

Job Overview: A respected law firm in Vancouver, WA, seeks a highly experienced Employee Benefits Attorney to provide comprehensive legal guidance in benefits and compensation matters, including retirement plans, health and welfare plans, executive compensation, and multiemployer pension plans. This role emphasizes independence, strategic insight, and effective client service within a collaborative legal team.

Duties

  • Design, draft, amend, and oversee qualified retirement plans in compliance with Code § 401(a), 403(b), 457(b), and similar regulations.
  • Guide the correction of errors within retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and executive compensation arrangements.
  • Support corporate transactions, restructurings, reductions-in-force, and change-in-control events with expertise in benefits and compensation.
  • Develop, document, and manage ERISA health and welfare plan materials, including summary plan descriptions.
  • Advise employers on trust and contract law issues concerning multiemployer plans.
  • Conduct analysis and provide counsel on multiemployer pension plan withdrawal liabilities.
  • Prepare and review employment-related documents and advise on Code 409A issues.
  • Perform due diligence on ERISA-related items in Mergers & Acquisitions.
  • Counsel clients on non-qualified deferred compensation arrangements under Code §§ 409A, 457, and 280G.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in employee benefits law.
  • Proven ability to manage projects independently while thriving in a team-oriented setting.
  • Strong client service commitment.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active admission to the Washington.

Skills

  • Proficient in legal research, analysis, and written and verbal communication.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail in designing and managing complex employee benefits plans.
  • High level of professional integrity and commitment to client confidentiality.
