A law firm is seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable Mechanical Patent Agent or Scientific Advisor to join their fast-growing intellectual property practice in Columbus, OH. The ideal candidate will have technical experience in mechanical engineering, medical devices, and oilfield tools, with strong academic credentials and excellent analytical, research, writing, and communication skills.

 

Duties:

  • Assist in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the fields of mechanical engineering, medical devices, and oilfield tools.
  • Conduct patentability searches and analyze scientific and technical documents.
  • Draft and review patent applications, ensuring clarity and compliance with legal standards.
  • Provide technical support for patent litigation and enforcement matters.
  • Communicate with clients to understand their inventions and provide strategic advice on intellectual property matters.
  • Respond to office actions and correspond with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Conduct legal and technical research to support patent applications and litigation.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and other legal professionals within the firm to deliver optimal client outcomes.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and provide ongoing technical and patent-related counsel.
  • Stay updated on changes in patent laws, regulations, and relevant scientific advancements.

 

Requirements:

  • Technical experience in mechanical engineering, medical devices, and oilfield tools.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • 2+ years of experience in patent prosecution and drafting.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical issues and provide effective solutions.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

Education:

Technical degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

 

Certifications:
