A law firm seeks an experienced Public Works Construction Associate to join its team. This position is open to candidates who wish to work remotely or in one of the firm’s offices. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in public works construction, with a strong emphasis on advisory and litigation experience.

Duties

  • Provide legal advice and representation regarding public works construction projects.
  • Attend legislative body meetings to address and evaluate contracting questions and disputes.
  • Conduct extensive document reviews, focusing on the interpretation of technical matters.
  • Negotiate, draft, and review contracts while ensuring compliance with public contracting requirements.
  • Manage federal funding requirements, bid protests, surety/bond issues, and insurance matters.
  • Collaborate with clients and colleagues to develop effective solutions to complex legal challenges.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of advisory and litigation experience in public works construction.
  • Engineering, architecture, or construction management degree, or extensive experience in the construction field.
  • Ability to independently evaluate routine contracting questions and respond effectively.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Must be licensed to practice law in California.

Skills

  • Proficient in contract negotiation, drafting, and review.
  • Strong understanding of public contracting regulations and procedures.
