Job Overview: A law firm seeks an experienced Associate Attorney to join its San Diego, CA team. The ideal candidate will have a background in civil litigation, particularly complex civil litigation, construction, and personal injury matters. The Associate Attorney will be responsible for independently evaluating cases, communicating with clients and counsel, drafting legal documents, conducting legal research, and providing excellent service to clients. Intense research, writing, and oral advocacy skills and the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently are essential.

Job Duties:

  • Independently evaluate cases and provide recommendations to senior managing partners.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, counsel, and senior managing partner.
  • Strategize, recommend and prepare discovery requests and responses.
  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda.
  • Draft complaints, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Evaluate, draft, and argue dispositive motions.
  • Prepare for and conduct depositions of witnesses.
  • Prepare for and attend court hearings and mediations.
  • Supervise junior attorneys and paralegal staff in trial preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with billing and reporting requirements of the Firm, clients, and insurance carriers.
  • Provide excellent client service at all times.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of civil litigation experience.
  • Strong background in complex civil litigation, construction, and personal injury matters.
  • Admission to the California State Bar; licensure in other states is a plus.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Excellent oral advocacy skills and familiarity with rules of evidence.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with courts, E-Filing, and various legal software (Excel, Word, IManage, Outlook, Serengeti Tracker, Time Matters, PowerPoint).

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California State Bar.
