General Liability Associate Attorney

A law firm in New York City, NY is seeking a General Liability Associate Attorney with 5+ years of defense litigation experience. The candidate will handle defense litigation matters involving general liability, managing a caseload from inception to trial. They must be licensed to practice in New York courts, with additional state admissions, such as New Jersey, preferred. The role requires strong legal research, analytical, and communication skills, proficiency in MS Office, and familiarity with both state and federal court procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Handle defense litigation matters involving general liability.
• Draft, prepare, and handle pleadings, motions, orders, and legal memoranda.
• Draft and respond to written discovery requests and dispositive motions.
• Conduct legal research competently and efficiently.
• Prepare and take depositions of parties and experts.
• Review client documents, draft case evaluations, and prepare status report correspondence.
• Review, assess, and handle matters from inception through trial.
• Assist and participate in mediations and court appearances.
• Interact directly with clients, claim professionals, opposing counsel, colleagues, and staff.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in New York; additional state admissions preferred.
• 5+ years of defense litigation experience, preferably in general liability.
• Strong legal research and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail with superb organization and prioritization skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Excel and Outlook, and navigating the internet.

Education and Certifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the New York State Bar; additional state admissions (e.g., New Jersey) preferred.
