A law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking a Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney or Department Attorney with experience in drafting patent applications and prosecuting before the USPTO. The ideal candidate should possess strong academic credentials, excellent judgment and communication skills, and a commitment to delivering outstanding client service. Admission to the USPTO is required, along with an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field.

 

Duties:

  • Draft patent applications and prosecute patents before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Conduct prior art searches and patentability analyses.
  • Provide strategic counseling and advice to clients regarding patent portfolio management.
  • Collaborate with inventors, clients, and colleagues to assess invention disclosures and develop patent strategies.
  • Respond to office actions and communicate effectively with USPTO examiners.
  • Review and analyze patent-related documents and correspondence.
  • Stay updated on changes in patent laws and regulations.

 

Requirements:

  • Admission to the USPTO.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent.
  • 5-8 years of patent prosecution experience.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Excellent judgment and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent.
