Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking an experienced Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Associate to join its highly regarded team. The role involves advising clients on a broad range of employee benefits and executive compensation matters, including the design, implementation, and maintenance of tax-qualified retirement plans, health and welfare benefit programs, and non-qualified deferred compensation plans. The candidate will also handle ERISA fiduciary matters and assist with the benefits aspects of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 6 years of experience in this field and demonstrate strong analytical and drafting skills.

Location:

  • Columbus, OH

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel on employee benefits and executive compensation issues
  • Design, implement, and maintain tax-qualified retirement plans and health & welfare benefit programs
  • Draft non-qualified deferred compensation plans, incentive plans, and severance pay plans
  • Advise clients on ERISA fiduciary matters and compliance
  • Assist with the benefits aspects of M&A transactions
  • Work with a diverse client base, including public corporations, privately held companies, financial institutions, and tax-exempt organizations
  • Draft and analyze health & welfare and qualified plan documents

Requirements:

  • 3 to 6 years of experience in employee benefits and executive compensation law
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and draft health & welfare and qualified plan documents
  • Experience handling ERISA fiduciary matters and M&A-related benefits issues
  • Strong work ethic with a focus on building client relationships
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills:

  • Expertise in employee benefits and executive compensation regulations
  • Strong drafting, writing, and communication skills
  • Proficient in managing complex benefits and compensation matters
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong interpersonal and client management skills
