Job Overview:We are seeking an experienced Senior Claims Counsel on behalf of a leading law firm with a global presence. This role involves managing general and professional liability claims from investigation through resolution. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, expertise in insurance claims, and the ability to develop effective resolution strategies. This position can be based in Illinois, North Carolina, Iowa, or Pennsylvania and offers a collaborative work environment with a focus on delivering exceptional client service.

Duties:

  • Investigate and assess liability, damages, and coverage for insurance claims.
  • Develop and implement resolution strategies, including risk transfer, mediation, and litigation management.
  • Analyze policy language and prepare written coverage determinations in collaboration with coverage counsel.
  • Set and manage reserves, considering coverage, liability, and potential damages.
  • Oversee litigation management, including hiring defense counsel, reviewing pleadings, and managing litigation budgets and invoices.
  • Maintain comprehensive electronic claim files and document all communications and transactions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by interacting professionally with insureds, claimants, and business partners.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute claim resolution strategies.
  • Keep leadership informed of significant risks, losses, and projected exposures through reports and evaluations.
  • Represent the organization in mediations, court proceedings, and other legal situations.
  • Prepare and present claim status updates and reports to management and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local regulatory requirements.
  • Travel as required to attend mediations, court proceedings, or client meetings.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active insurance license in one or more states (Florida, Texas, New York, or California).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience managing claims, with a strong focus on claims resolution.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance principles, claims practices, and legal procedures.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and business-related software.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active insurance license in Florida, Texas, New York, or California (required).

Skills:

  • Expertise in claims investigation, resolution strategies, and litigation management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to handle complex claims and negotiate favorable outcomes.
